Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 1)

None that I’ve ever seen.

From some quick internet sleuthing, it’s treated as fraud and there is no statutory upper limit set. Lawyers who get too comfy filing frivolous ADA lawsuits often get disbarred, too.

Because it’s totally under control, right? Perfect control!

Houston on track to go where NYC avoided, TX, AZ and FL breaking records. Goddamn it we knew this was coming, we saw it in NY/NJ and refused to prepare for it. Republicans are insisting that we die for their portfolios.

and moreover, the ada only requires reasonable accommodation. curbside pickup more than counts.

people have allowed themselves to be lathered up into a frothing mess over something that just shouldn’t matter.

it’s like, if having to wear a mask is the worst thing that ever happened to you, then count your lucky stars and put on the goram mask already. you’ve lived a fortunate life, and we’re all real sorry it had to come to this. gasp

No they’re not, they think it’s funny, and that they’re so incredibly clever, and haha, suck it lib-turd.

And also, it affects minorities more than whites, so spread it around as much as you can.

They’re not ignorant, or misguided. They know exactly what is going on and what they are doing. They are evil.

Considering the typical complications arising from COVID-19 infection, they may not breathe so freely soon, in addition to harming other, innocent people.

that wasn’t my personal experience in dealing with one of these people. they were angry, and trying to prove some sort of point about the world i think. ( white man, late thirties early forties, richard stallman esque beard. )

not too different in demeanor from a person i remember from a few years back. i had to get them to move their car because it was parked right in front of the store’s door and had a big old confederate flag sticker on it.

it was like they wanted to see if anybody would challenge them, and then when someone did, got annoyed at the unfairness of it all, even though they knew they were being an ass.

And of course, even if we ignore morality and basic human decency entirely, a pandemic pushing the health care sector to breaking point, killing tens of thousands needlessly, and sickening hundreds of thousands, some of them suffering permanent long-term harm as a result, is really goddamn bad for the economy and the stock market.

If these people were motivated by cold-blooded, heartless greed, that would be one thing; it would be rational, if monstrous. But there’s no rational calculation going on here, just blind ostrichism and an idiotic belief that the only reason the economy and the stock market have been tanking is because of the pandemic response. It’s not just evil, it’s stupid, and weirdly enough, I’m probably more offended by the stupidity.

I was worried about the protestors, or rather, worried for them.
But it appears the recent surges are not because of protests or rallies. At those, mask wearing is the norm. The spreqd is because of parties and other purely social events.

Sometimes I really want to confront the people who aren’t wearing masks. But I don’t because I figure if they are that stupid, nothing I say will change them and if they are that mad then I’m going to be risking my life.

My daughter wanted a story last night about how some feline heroes defeated “the villian parent who came to school and didn’t wear a mask!” I’m guessing her daycare got push back from a parent who refused to mask for drop off or pickup. Apparently, all the kids decided they were a villain.

Yeah, we have things very well in control compared to many countries, such as the US. A combination of good governance, a responsible citizenry, and more than a bit of good luck, I’d say.
