I donât think even most âpessimistsâ (including me!) really have a handle on what it means for this to just keep going, perhaps continuing to get worse, for another 3 months, and another 3 months⊠From the start there was a kind of âwell, by the Fall, we will surely have this under control, even with that orange dipshit in charge.â And itâs July now.
Like Iraq, the media arenât really interested in helping people see what is going on. And just like Iraq, nobody gives a shit about people who donât die but are crippled. With 1-2% mortality, it will be a while before everyone loses someone they know, and by that time survivor bias will if anything have increased the smug asshole quotient. Everything about this disease is perfectly designed to be impenetrable to lizard-brain, and thus utterly beyond reality-TV viewers.
My news sources suggest that there is simply no leadership in this country, no one trying to say what is happening and why, even if they have no control.

There were news stories in early April about fines up to $1,000 in some California and Texas towns. I wish that would happen here. Restrictions in PA have been imposed, lifted, and then imposed again. I expect the same groups that initially complained about masks to pick up right where they left off. If only the pro-profit forces that were so successful in reducing government restrictions, disputing medical advice, and countering common sense couldâve used their powers for good.
