ot was actually a quote from Steve Martin’s 1977 book of shorts and essays called Cruel Shoes. in it is a very short piece simply titled “Ducks!”

Sort of off topic, but on first reading Helprin’s Winter’s Tale I did not know the history of the Five Points, so I was highly amused by the names of the gangs. The Pink Rabbits couldn’t possibly have been a real gang, right?
