I remember telling my cousin I liked Dukes of Hazzard and it was the first time I heard the word “redneck.” I just liked the car chases.
Thanks, I had successfully blocked that out.
Thanks for being honest about it; I totally believe that kind of stuff happened, tear-off release forms. Geez.
One thing that I did, for real, delete before posting earlier in this thread was something along the lines condemning (starting with an F and ending with a U) producers of all reality shows. With a special place for whoever worked on COPS (no offence, of course).
Oh, wait, I just checked. I didn’t delete it. What I deleted was a comment that I am pretty sure there is at least one reality tv producer that lurks here on BB.
That was the most blisteringly cogent thing I’ve read in a comments section, ever!
Thank you for that MalevolentPIxy.
It’s like the difference between the overt racism we see in all the videos and the systemic racism that permeates everyday life. One is easier to see. They both do damage. And like scripted TV shows, there’s a continuum of visibility to systemic racism. You’ve got the kind of thing where it’s obviously mixed with the overt (like NCIS/Blue Bloods/L&O or real estate agents who can’t redline anymore just not showing / recommending certain neighborhoods based on the skin of their clients) to the more subtle. But they absolutely have an effect – it’s just not in your face. One of those effects is that we can absolutely imagine a world without COPS, but a great many of us simply cannot comprehend a world without cops.
Wow. Thank you.
Producers are kinda like cops, good ones and bad ones.
