I suspect that the rebooted series is gonna go over like a lead balloon, since I suspect many will boycott if Joanne is involved…

must applaud the expert and subtle image manipulation to underscore the essential point [gratuitous dicaprio applause gif]

credits of course to actress Imelda Staunton who perfectly played everyone’s authoritarian nightmare

Yeah she was great in The Crown. I liked her as the headmistress lady in that last potter flick too.

They could do Terry Prachett. Or Ursula K LeGuin. or generic wizard School characters.

If my library suggested a program like this, I would advocate for not doing it for completely different reasons!

Way to go, Warner Bros. Shut down a literacy event themed to promote your franchise with young readers.

Plus the original cast was iconic.
Plus plus reboots rarely fare well.

It wouldn’t be entirely surprising if WB sees readers as…underutilizing…their potential as multimedia consumers.

Same, there are more inclusive literary worlds and better authors

The main thing the original Harry Potter series was known for was coming in as a perfect storm. For some reason, it caught fire when there were similar and just as good or better story arcs already available (Wizard of Earthsea, So You Want To Be a Wizard, The Hero and the Crown, Alanna, JRRT FFS) and has been the gold standard for this style of storytelling ever since. I blame marketing, although JKR’s toxic eructations have started to sour the interest.

Imagine achieving all that and never being able to conclusively dismiss the possibility it might not have happened if you had presented as female.

The original movies captured lightning in a bottle. It was a fresh and popular IP that hadn’t yet been finished which kept things interesting. There were brilliantly cast child actors and many of the very best British actors on tap. (Many who are dead now.) There were some indelible portrayals that I just don’t know how you can top — I mean Alan Rickman as Severus Snape? How can you ever compare to that?

I just don’t get why anybody would invest 10 years into a re-telling of the same stories you can already watch today but with different actors and maybe more time for some of the stories to breathe? I just don’t get it. (This isn’t even touching on JK Rowling’s completely unforced and continued self-immolation.)

I have zero interest in spending any time or money into HP. But, in an alternate world where the author wasn’t a piece of shit, I would be interested if it was done as an animated series or movie(s).

So many of us want the series to go over poorly, but JKR’s views actually drive people to simply support products just as vehemently as we boycott them. The release of the Hogwarts Legacy game was met with boycotts by some gamers and even websites and somehow still became a huge seller worldwide. It’s infuriating how popular this franchise has remained.

Just because you get a letter from a Warner Bros. lawyer saying what you are doing infringes their copyright doesn’t mean what you are doing infringes copyright. Your local government lawyers may have a different opinion. Also, fuck Warner Bros. for screwing people who are promoting Harry Potter at no cost to Warner Bros.

I read the novels to my daughters. They loved them and probably still do. It grieves me to see what a POS Rowling has terfed out to be.
