The Doolittle Raid, in which 16 land-based bombers went on a one-way bombing raid over Tokyo, was carried out in april 1942 (42/04). It was of little strategic use, but was the US emotional retaliation for Pearl Harbor.

42/06 (June 1942): The Battle of Midway. This decisive and surprising victory by the US over Japan turned the tide of war in the pacific. It proved the future of naval warfare was with submarines and carriers, and the day of the battleship–the primary naval weapon since the 16th century or so, was over. In addition, it showed Japanese battle strategy of shock-and-awe could be beat with guile, codebreaking, and counterespionage. Six months after Pearl Harbor.

My ex-boss bought an old Norwegian sea rescue boat (similar to this one) and used it to cruise the Mediterranean Sea. The port of Nice was a great view: White yacht, white yacht, dark-grey monster, white yacht, white yacht.
Why do I know this you ask? They had terrible problems with the satellite internet and we had to fix it.
