Egmont (1709) says that the pyramids were called Djebel Pharoun: that the largest was built upon a rock, about sixty feet high, which had been hewn into the form of a camel’s back. He states, that the base of the Great Pyramid was found, by Greaves, to be six hundred and ninety three English feet:

You and me both, @catgrin It’s been that sort of a week. Time to break the decent grog out.
I was asking Majestic Wines about Grange just the other day! Back in the day I fancied trying some, never had the money. Still don’t have the money, still would like to try some, to see if the hype is true!
It really is very, very good. Over-priced IMO, but like Henschke Hill of Grace it’s an absolutely and deservedly iconic wine, so price is difficult as it’s driven by cachet and investment as much as taste.
If you can get hold of a decent Bin 389 or even one of the better St. Henri’s you’d be getting a wine that’s not quite as good, but definitely in the same ballpark for a lot less. Not as special as Grange, though.
Yeah, I’m one of these “if I’m gonna do it, I’m not taking the bronze” people!
I drink very little one, but have had some incredibly excellent wines. One was an Australian Shiraz, when they were breaking into the UK market in the 90s, priced around £7, and I drank it with a french winemaker. We utterly agreed it was beyond any comparison either of us had ever experienced.
I’ll look forward to my Grange!
I hope that lovely image shows - if not, here’s a link to the book itself (where a much larger version is). The picture is of a Bird Spider “Vogelspinne” the plate for page 698, and appears in vol. 9 of Allgemeine Kunde des Tierreichs by Brehms Tierleben. The other volumes of the collection can be found here.
