The public domain also encourages other creators to make derivative products which can lead to wonderful things. It’s how Disney funded so much of the empire; reworkings of tales that were in the public domain.

All our excessive copyright does is protect the money machines of those already rich and powerful at the expense of everyone else. Like so many other things surrounding us these days. It’s a fucking mess.

But what about the great-great-great grandchildren of the authors? Who will think of their suffering if copyright terms were shortened? What inheritance will have have to squabble over?
