Courtney Love says Olivia Rodrigo stole her video idea from Hole album cover, and it seems like she's right

Yeah. It’s not a terribly unique idea, and even if it were, the new images seem clearly and distinctly homage rather than anything that would cause market confusion or whatever. In a pre-copyright-extension world, the fact that the image is over a quarter century old would have put it in the public domain anyway.

Hole was a pop music act - there is zero chance that their own creative output contained no appropriation of prior work.

This is just like when Titian complained that Manet stole his painting idea from his Venus de Urbino work, and it seems like he’s right!

We’re discussing Courtney Love right now. Something that wouldn’t otherwise happen.

Some of the people who read about this brou-ha-ha, here or elsewhere, will look up Hole on Spotify. It could add up nicely.

It probably also works in favour of Olivia Rodrigo.

So yeah, as a marketing trick, it’s fine.

O come off it, your telling me that, its not such a trop that she could not have had that idea here self, any one who watches old movies would have seen that look as a thing!

Reclining female nudes in art. Yes, that is both of them. /s
