Apart from applying this to porn, this is what we’ve been waiting for/dreading since that Diet Coke commercial that interlaced Bogart and Cagney and other deceased stars with Elton John. At some point, directors will be able to digitally cast any dead actor or actress, any dead historical figure with photos of them taken from enough angles, looped by a convincing voice impressionist. I had thought it would happen when CGI hit some level beyond the uncanny valley to create the full body, but all we need are voice actors, faceswapping and Andy Serkis to act out the movements. I mean, some roughly matching body doubles for the faces to be swapped onto. When the software is fast enough and cheap enough, the next level beyond that will allow viewers to digitally recast any part in any movie with anyone they want. Let Nicholas Cage play Superman this time, with Donna Reed as Lois and Ulysses S. Grant as General Zod.

Maybe that explains The Polar Express movie. They were really just sucking up as much of Tom Hanks’ essence as they could while producing a early worling proof-of-concept of his cgi rebirth to get ahead of the curve. I mean something has to explain that movie…
What it does for porn doesn’t concern me nearly as much as what it will do for character assassination. “Oh look, here’s a video of Trump shooting Cecil the lion. Oh, and here’s Oprah spitting on a homeless person. Oh, and here’s our school principal shoplifting.”
It doesn’t have to even be a good fake. It just has to be good enough to trigger our confirmation bias.
