I’m one of the renewing ‘reader’ subscribers- it’s a really good, well written site with a compelling and often hilarious comments section.
Highly recommended if you’re a sports fan.
Even if you aren’t a sports fan, it’s a great site. While most of their articles are about sports, I find that their “sports adjacent” articles to be the most interesting. I’m also a renewing “reader” subscriber.
Pal here… it is crazy that Herbie Spanfeller and the PE Vampires had all these people on staff at Deadspin and blew it.
More evidence toward the argument that if people know the money is going to actual creators, they are willing to pay. Big media corps are “right” when they say that it’s hard to get subscriber dollars for them. People probably feel a lot better reading for free when it’s hitting a corporate wallet, and the content is just AP pass-throughs and clickbait. Here’s hoping this is sustainable and replicable.
I came to ask if anyone here used it. I looked on the front page and concluded it was dedicated to sport - and only US sport, at that.
Hey-ho. Thanks for the confirmation.
Not for me either, but from the brief look I had, if I was an American sports fan I might pay for that.
