I suspect it’s something of a regular feeding routine; the dogs aren’t going nuts at an intruder into their territory and the groundhog is equally unperturbed.

If it’s Punxsutawney Phil, I’d be worried that he was looking for an upgrade to his current place. He’s just sizing up the kitchen and figuring how long he has to wait out the current occupants before moving in.
