I think people are misunderstanding my point. I’m not arguing for non-violence, or non-violent symbolism. I’m arguing for symbolism that isn’t based on a) a revolution that ultimately failed spectacularly and b) defining ourselves by our enemies. I didn’t recommend the black power salute or rainbow flag because I thought they were all peace and love, but because they helped to define the people marching under them. A guillotine doesn’t really say anything about the people marching under it, only who they oppose.
