Also Mash Gang stuff, I have been seriously impressed by their collabs, they made a 0.5% version of a 6.5% NEIPA, and about the only difference I noticed was that it was slightly less pillowy.
This is probably more beer nerd stuff, than every day drinks, but they are very good (and so are Pastore who they have a collaboration on that page) just not cheap.
Im also a big fan on Athletic. Its now my go to drink when I feel like a tasty evening bevererage but dont want something with alcohol. PS theres a sale on subscriptions right now so I just ordered a ton of it.
I was also happy to discover an alcohol free beverage shop opened up nearby that had a big selection of alcohol free beers and “spirits”. I tried a few very tasty cocktails but I’m too lazy to replicate at home ;).
They had some other very flavourful beers I quite enjoyed:
I got absolutely adicted to bitter lemon on a trip through Uganda a few years back. It’s hard to find where I live to so I grab it any time I see it in a specialty shop (usually at a eye watering markup… ). It’s so much better than the overly sweet sodas that dominate the market.
The reason Iike Small Beer’s stuff is that it is brewed to be - well, small beer - i.e. low-alcohol (not brewed as normal and then has alcohol removed). Their stuff is all under 3% but not below 1%.
I find it just tastes better than most no-alcohol beer (which is defined as 0.5% or less, IIRC, in UK).
(I could find nothing on Mash Gang’s site about where they are or how they brew. That is a site badly in need of an ‘about us’ page and a contact us page with an actual address/location.)
if you can make your way through that, it seems they’re brewing at Northern Monk, and also no mention of any sort of alcohol removal in that or any other post… dunno.
All very confusing.
Sounds like one of their bloggers is a USian or spent time there. Northern Monk is apparently some sort of building / location in Leeds…
As I noted, their site needs a shit-ton more info on it. Opaque as fuck (hopefully not like their beer, but there are references to ‘hazy’).
Aren’t those malt beers, though? Those are different from alcohol free beer and have been a popular children’s drink in Germany (and other places, including Iceland and the Caribbean) for centuries.
I picked up a six pack of Athletic IPA based on your comment and it’s excellent! My local shop also had an N/A from Boulevard called Flying Start IPA that I’ll try next because I’ve never had a bad beer from Boulevard.
