Back in another lifetime, in the late 70s early 80s, 976 numbers found in the back of magazines like Hustler were all the rage.

Until the phone bill came and we had some splainin to do.

I used to know a guy who would dial his own answering machine and leave
insults for his own eventual fulfillment.

Back in those days, a friend rang a psychic line to ask about her faltering relationship. The lovely psychic on the end of the line simply said “Look, I’m not going to bother throwing a Tarot. You rang me, so you already know things are pretty much over. Just go with that feeling and see where it leads.” She said it was exactly what she needed to hear.
