Distillery accidentally sold gin bottles filled with hand sanitizer

SS means sailing ship. (edit: or steam ship?)

The distillery is on the great ocean road in Victoria so nautical references are all over the place. The wreck of the Loch Ard would be quite near by,

To be fair, it’s been, what, a century since anyone purchased or drank liquor in a pharmacy?

For some of us it hasn’t been long at all. In New Orleans, Walgreens has a pretty good liquor selection. Like most New Orleanians I have found memories of the K&B pharmacy chain. They had their own line of liquor. Cheap, generic stuff, like glass jugs with just a K&B purple sticker labeled “VODKA” or “GIN”.

In some states, you can only buy Everclear (sometimes just the higher-proof versions) in pharmacies. “Rectified spirits” as the law calls 'em.

(Curiously, most of those states still permit 155-proof rum in liquor stores, but then, rum is not exactly what you’d call “rectified.”)

Or we keep going with festivals, rallies and casinos.

Places where people congregate; and drink; and emote.

All that is missing is drinking at polling places (like in the early United States of America – applejack for votes).

If we had drinking and voting, this whole dismantling-of-Democracy campaign could make real progress.

Bonus irony if it turns out we are drinking vodka infused with computer viruses.

Low levels of carcinogens other than the carcinogenic ethanol?

It’s common to add spices like black pepper to vodka, let it infuse for a while (days, not moments), and then drink it ice cold.

Perhaps sprinkling black pepper is a quick and dirty simulation when you can’t get the good stuff?

Rinse and repeat, @Michael_R_Smith.

Yes true…but it was supposed to be in the Caribbean - which is why the Minnow sailed out of Florida.

Not the one in NSW at least …

As opposed to “Sippin’ Grade”.

Whereas industrial grade is served in 55 gallon drums for a robot kegger.

You need a 60 gallon drum:

Sounds like a good name for an actual drink. Margaritas with some aloe, and just call it “a hand sanitizer.”

Ya got me. I was certain the screenwriter had mentioned the Carrib during some interview. Alas, the spoof being proposed will work there.

@d_r Still there must be something in it. I just turned up the original (shelved) theme:

TBH, I don’t think you could make either show today. But, what do I know? I know nothing, nothing.

Reprising Sergeant Schultz eh?
Evidently it very nearly was never made, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still being shown somewhere.

Good Lord, man, don’t get a grip – you’re worse than me!

I’ve a mind to document this into its own Gnomon Chronicles page … okay with you? Credit to you, natch.
