Do people actually drink Lancers wine?

“I’m gonna look for a bottle when my kid and I go to the market later. This could be bad.”

Time for an unboxing… of boxed wine.

I have an unopened bottle that I inherited (!) from my late mother, who got it after my father died. The vintage is 1968. Anyone want it?

Morgen’s and Riunite are missing!

I have an unopened bottle of that, too, and it’s got to be at least 40 years old, maybe 45.

My bedside lamp for most of my childhood was made from a Lancers Rose bottle, but I never saw my parents, or anyone else, drink it. I remember seeing a bottle of Lancers White in the store and being surprised because it was green, as opposed to the brick red of my lamp.

An ex-girlfriend of mine had a truly weird taste for syrupy sweet wine, so her preference was for MD 20/20 and Manischewitz.

MAD DOG 20/20, THE WINE OF THE CENTURY! The perfect beach party wine. The flat bottles made it fit closer to the body under a high school letter jacket so it was easier to shoplift. But we really shouldn’t have. As a “wine” it was not too horrible but it was genetically engineered to cause the most Christ-awful hangovers in history. It must have been created by a moralist who wanted to punish you for trying to have fun.

Hmm… I remember having it once with dinner at a friend’s house. It was fizzy, if I remember right.

I thought it was okay!

Yeah, I’m gonna paraphrase from The Mummy (1999) here…“NO! You must not drink from the bottle!”

Riunite on ice, that’s (not so) nice…

Man, Oh Manischewitz…

Gah! I’ve been brainwashed by ads from the '70s.

Unavailable where I looked. Will try a BevMo sooner or later.

I’ll just leave this here where you can pick it up and add it to your collection of class.

I recently discovered at my corner store that Ripple actually exists. I’d always thought it was just a figure of speech–some kind of shorthand for all cheap, hard-hitting wine.

What did you think the Grateful Dead were singing about?

Well, I was six in 11/1970…it was truly a great decade for jingles…ever heard ♫ Help, Help/The real fruit drink/Red and purple and orange and pink…♫
There’s more but I thankfully don’t remember it, although I can reply a scenario from one of their TV ads, regretfully.

“it’s Downright Upright”!

It’s nice when you get bombed out your skull on it, as you’re a 15-year-old alky, asking people as they go in to the party store if they’ll “buy” for you…oh wait, that was ME, not you…you didn’t do that kinda crap, did you?
