Snake poop keeps rodents away, it definitely worked in my previous house.
It looks like a bad bird crap, doesn’t smell and the mice do NOT come back.
I believe you are referring to the recent study of one Brooklyn colony of feral cats which made that conclusion. But my point is that there seems to be variability amongst cats, in part due to their actual hunting experience.
I can say for a fact, anecdotal though it may be, that Princess took down rats since I witnessed it. She was a smallish cat. They were ordinary sized brown rats (not the really big black river rats that I’ve seen in NYC).
Note for anybody that wants to try this - there are two kinds of drywall compound. Drying and Setting. Drying compound becomes hard as it drys. Setting compound hardens due to a chemical reaction driven by water - like plaster. I’ll leave it to your own intelligence to figure out which one to use for this.
I’ve seen a number of studies that came to the same conclusion: that cat predation on rats just wasn’t significant. It’s not that no cats do so, just that they’re unusual (and that larger rats are largely immune to their predation).
