Eventually the Air Buddies got super powers, went to outer space, and befriended Santa Claus and his dogs. Santa’s dogs then got two of their own movies (The Santa Paws films).

Count yourself lucky. It features perhaps the most heartbreaking child+animal companion scene since Atreyu lost Artax to the swamp. This really upset me when I was nine years old (and it still does):
