So one of my favorite fine dining experience in the US was a prix fix menu with all of the service/gratuity/misc included in an up front ticket price. It was nice to go into a restaurant, have a nice meal, and then just leave.
Unless it is explicitly stated on the menu, you can decline the “otooshi” as long as you say so explicitly before they bring it out. Whether they serve you afterwards is another matter, but you have the legal right to refuse it before it is served.
I mean, I guess that’s why there’s chocolate and vanilla. Like I noted, I never had an issue with Linkery, though I did understand some of the distractors…
As for cheap eats, there are still some solid places. Lefty’s, Sicilian Thing, Friendly (both spots), El Tianguis (one of my favorites, but other taco shops, too), Chicken Pie Shop, etc…
NP was bound to gentrify given the two major blvds, and the swath of older homes that became desirable. Which of course has had its own problems that go along with it.
