If only they had used that sweet 70s analog technology to make a version of Star Tours that guests could pilot themselves…
I skimmed it. Neat!
Do the Swiss still use Alpenflage, or is that just part of their museum uniform?
Used to use one of these in Grafenwohr, Germany back in the 90s. It wasn’t good for simulating weather, or simulating sliding sideways down a hill in the mud. Then it got replaced by a computer system called JANUS (which we called J-Anus) which just sucked immensely, but that’s progress I guess.
ISTR that the US Army used to have something similar. (albeit larger) for training helicopter pilots.
I expect it was the same one I used in Grafenwohr.
Now that sounds 90% downright terrifying and 10% fun (in a nervous giggly way).
Take your hands off the T-bar and let it happen. Any attempts to right the slide will cause you to throw a track (or both). Then you’re in a world of hurt.
It was a fairly popular way of creating a simulator, here’s a view of one built to train Concorde pilots:
And here’s one for the Apollo astronauts:
That’s what…
Never mind.
Come to think of it - is this the tank driver’s version of “Jesus, take the wheel!”?
I’m more inclined to believe in Isaac Newton in the moment
