That opinion from Ian Morris, a professor of classics at Stanford University. If by “us” he means “affluent white guys over age 55 with lifetime job security who’s never served in the military (check on all counts) and whose children likely never will”, the headline isn’t inaccurate.

I suspect he will continue the troop draw down, none the less, despite this, because it was a campaign promise and he wants to be able to deliver to his base.
