RIP.
"Threatening the defense relationship with Saudi Arabia, which is vulnerable to attacks from arch rival Iran without U.S. protection, has given the two senators an outsized role in Washingtonâs campaign to boost oil output. "
Kevin Cramer (R-ND)
Dan Sullivan (R-AK)
This will end well, right?
GAH! Fucking WHYYYYYY???
The usual reasons for weaponising something.
This is most likely surplus from Boeingâs failed âFuture Combat Systemsâ.A $340 Billion dollar bag of rocks.
I know. Still. Why.
Too many assholes?
A bit of a rant. If you want. Nothing you wouldn't already know, anyway.
My working theory is that, individual brilliance1) notwithstanding, in its entirety humankind is a maddening slow learner that keeps making the same mistakes over and over and over again. One step forward, then, three generations or so later, one step backward. On average, the first step seems to be ever so slightly larger than the second one. Yay, progress! And, frustratingly, as a whole we keep getting away with it2), no matter how destructive and cruel this gets on the individual level, no matter how large the collateral damage3) is.
I still refuse to just let things slide4). It doesnât have to be that way5). Improvement is possible. No matter how infinitesimal it may be, it all adds up. Maybe the process can be tweaked to create an effect akin to compound interest, but for betterment.
1) Smart and not an asshole. You know, good people, for lack of a better definition.
2) In the sense of âwe havenât managed to wipe ourselves out completely, yet, no matter how high the bodies pile upâ. I think I read somewhere once that at one time human (or an earlier versionâs) population was down to 10000, globally, and look at us now. Although that might have been a bit of made-up pop culture.
3) Damage to the environment, waste of resources, that sort of thing. Not people that have been killed.
4) This includes taking the odd breather to retain my sanity. Taking time to stop and smell the roses, indulge myself6), or rant into the void of the internet.
5) Every argument Iâve seen so far for âyes, things do have to be that wayâ turned out to be an excuse to be lazy, cement existing power structures, treat other people like crap, and whatnot along those lines.
6) Yes, I like using footnotes.
Just as long as they donât also show off their abilities in, er, sanitizing areas.
