The “‰” symbol isn’t really used in the United States, so I’m quite confused as to what those numbers mean. I’m guessing that 1.1‰ is equivalent to American BAC of .11 (one-tenth and one-hundredth of one percent of blood is ethanol). Seems quite generous to me.
Per mille is not a common unit in the US? Interesting, I wasn’t aware.
The important limit is 0.5‰ (i.e. 0.05%), every alcohol concentration above this level is a DUI case. The upper figure I used above is “only” the boundery for punishment based on the criminal code.
Hmm…saw a similar model Yesterday on clearance at Target for $25… Not interested untill it can also quantify bad breath - it should at least have an everyday use 
I think it’s linked to our reluctance to embrace the metric system, so a decimal of one percent is somehow more intuitive to us. Those numbers make sense now that I understand the significance, thanks.
