Elon Musk deeply concerned that robots can be programmed to not be racist

I think it’s because BB is partially a venue to discuss a harms and damage within society and what to do about them, and Elon seems to be pushing for a world where he’s not held accountable for harm by evangelizing unaccountability.

Elon Musk will definitely do that

Given his technical chops, he’d oversee, and the net result would be a racist Eliza, if that good.

He’s the world’s second most powerful capitalist and he’s having a Qanon-flavored midlife crisis

Because he’s the current poster child for “why nobody should ever be allowed to have that much money”.

Because he continues to do incredibly stupid things that harm a huge number of people.

Also, sunlight and disinfecting - ignoring him does not make him go away! It just empowers him

Wasn’t there a revelation recently that a lot of Chat GPT’s content moderation around racism was being done manually in the Global South somewhere? So some of this likely isn’t even automated so the pearl-clutching is even more asinine.

Not doing it seems like an easy way to do the galaxy an enormous favor.

Arguing with fuck-knuckles like Shapiro or Elonzi is a strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Can you run it in reverse? Ben Shapiro in and garbage out…since at least the garbage gives my dog something fun to roll on.

It makes perfect sense that Shapiro, Elonzi et al are determined to treat the output of an algorithmic, reactive, language-model-based text generator as actual (badly-) reasoned argument. Professional courtesy demands no less.

Some people write books, some people contemplate theoretical Physics, some study medicine, others teach, or design buildings, manage construction projects, or try to increase the efficiency of manufacturing processes.

And then there are the true heroes who work tirelessly to come up with scenarios where good white people like themselves can use the N-word without consequence.

He is having a uniquely terrible impact on the American political landscape by leaning into fascism by platforming fascists and pushing his pro-fascist talking points to his fanbois. That shit matters.

Have we reached peak stupid yet? A supposedly visionary billionaire fretting because a chatbot mindlessly parrots text (that happens to be anti-racial slur because it was specifically programmed to avoid racist language) may not be the stupidest thing that happened lately, but it sure feels like a contender. Do these people seriously not know that sentient AI isn’t a real thing? Is Musk going to be “concerned” that Santa Claus has access to his chimney next?

It’s funny that “laypeople” very much encompasses OpenAI co-founder and publicly-acknowledged tech genius Elon Musk.

Or it would have been funny ten years ago when the majority of people still believed the spin.

…why is Elon thinking so hard about justifications to use racial slurs? Why is it a priority for him that AI is able to identify times when it may be appropriate to use a racial slurs?

Frankly, an AI being able to recognise that certain words are inappropriate and that all of immediate, societal and textual context might determine how appropriate would be remarkable in and of itself, but of course chatGPT can’t do that.

What this DOES arguably tell you is that most of the time when someone on the internet asks if using a racial slur is okay, most people say no and calmly explain why.

Nope.
