A high school friend is a big Jonathan Richman fan, and has seen him play many times. They chat every time he’s in town, and he’s always really glad to see her, but mostly they look sideways at each other, shuffle their feet, stare at their shoes… It’s desperately cute, like two V shy 14-yr-olds with a big crush on one another.

John Cale toured with The Creatures, and opened for them at Detroit’s State Theatre. It was at least as incredible a show as you imagine. Pablo Picasso was one of Cale’s songs. I recognized it literally two notes in, and yelled, which made Cale jump. Bet that rarely happens. It was one of my proudest moments
