Yeah, I totally think that those numbers are “actual” and not downplayed in any shape or form.

Very much so, including the normal state of affairs in most protection rackets that you are in fact simply being ripped off because you will not get ‘protection’.
Credit monitoring services don’t protect you at all. They at best give you quicker notice that a fraud has been committed.
