The game technology advances, but without the story it’s nothing.

I dunno. I think Tetris (or Breakout, to stay on topic) is pretty good. I’d buy a new game with new game technology and totally without story in a heartbeat.

That was trippy and cool.
I´m waiting for Holographic techniology to actually play games like that. I know we have VR, but VR just gives me headaches.

Guy sitting in a chair reminds me of Carl Sagan in his ‘spaceship’ in his Cosmos series. He’s sitting there in wonder, watching all the stars and even galaxies pass by.

A while back I contributed to a kickstarter for the game star castle. apparently that’s what Yars revenge was originally supposed to be, but they couldnt figure out how to port over the arcade game. Then this old school atari programmer made it happen! You can download the rom here for free: http://starcastle2600.blogspot.com/p/star-castle-2600-story.html

The original was a vector game… Ive never seen one in person, but it looks beautiful in this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HHRCA6CS8k

My parents refused to buy me an Atari because they were worried that it would ruin the TV.

The announcer is trying to be Ken Nordine, and almost succeeded a couple of times.

This is another good one but they’re cheating because the graphics are from the arcade version, not the home console:

I remember the arcade game graphics. Those, sir, are not the arcade game graphics.

i see why he may have thought that. it’s better than the 2600 version (which I have, its fun but the controls are really difficult). I think it may be the 5200 version in the video. It almost looks vector with the blur of the VHS recording. they did a decent job of mimicing the look of the vector arcade game in the 5200.

Yes. At about 0:11 in the video they briefly flash that at the bottom of the screen.

nice comparison! I admit my error and bow down to your superior retro game recognizing ability

What a great story! I just tried it out and the gameplay is fast and fun, but REALLY hard. I couldn’t get anywhere near destroying the cannon (but I suck at the arcade version too).

The incredible thing is that he managed to keep the game to only 8kb. I think it goes to show what the 2600 was capable of when you’re able to work on a single game for three years!
