Looks like the Vice interview and videos were done in 2011, and that seems to be where the “over 40 years” language comes from. Looks like Barrientos was around 81 years old at that time.

The BoingBoing author seems to treat the 2011 info as though it’s current news. IMO that’s confusing.

Doing a bit of searching online, I’m not finding anything to tell us whether Barrientos is still living. (This long blog post from 2017 about him looks like an interesting read, though. The author didn’t know if Barrientos was still alive in 2017.)
