I guess we’d better keep an eye on Facebook’s TOS, in case they make it so that they can only be sued in the world where Trump won in 2020.

exactly. “Metaverse” makes this seem expansive when what Zuck is actually doing is restrictive. The internet is the metaverse, this is just attempt to rope in more kinds of existing interaction into a single closed-loop network and capitalize. Honestly Google has done this already a lot more successfully, but was smart enough to rather quietly do so, rather than announcing their intentions, but then Google seems more dependent on actual internal revenue rather than dazzling investors.

We got a meataverse in Psychonauts back in 2005!
the metaverse was a virtual world that people used as an escape from a dystopian reality and it seems very on-brand that someone whose company contributes so much to our current dystopia wants to capitalize on it by making the way we will escape from it
He wouldn’t enjoy playing Kingdom of Loathing, then, since meat is the currency.
