By coincidence I was admiring her work just the other day, it is gloriously mad and exciting.

There’s a story about the first exhibition Alexander Calder had after returning from his years in France. It was sponsored by Harvard students who met him at the end of his journey to Cambridge and were surprised that he had no visible artworks with him. They asked where his art was and he took a roll of wire out of one pocket and a set of pliers out of the other and said, “Here.”

Thomas Wolfe wrote a devastating portrait of one of Calder’s private party exhibitions of his “Calder’s Circus” in the book You Can’t Go Home Again.
