Here our grass is brown and crispy. I don’t have to mow it.
Nothing to see here, just tornadoes made of fire. The planet really wants us gone for what we’re doing to it.
But:
The rules would not apply to lawns at residential homes, apartment buildings, cemeteries or any “functional turf” that has a recreational use, including sports fields, golf courses, playgrounds, pet exercise areas and picnic grounds.
Golf courses. Ugh. They get so overwatered in SoCal.
… and they could call anything a “picnic ground” if somebody ate lunch there once
I guess this idea got pushback/wasn’t widely adopted :
Fescue and Zoysia seem like baby steps in the right direction.
It would be awesome if golf courses, like tennis, had different surfaces. This way the Southwest US could have hard-packed sand/clay for the fairways (with native trees and cacti surrounding them) and they could have a small green for each hole. The lower water usage would be significant.
How would clover do for part of the course? Good for the bees & butterflies. Fixes nitrogen. Doesn’t need water in many places. Maybe not the SW though?
Perfect putting green! They could still water that part.
