That is pushing into unsurvivable territory without AC.
Penrith is one of the poorest parts of Sydney, BTW. Lots of single mums, elderly/disability pensioners, minimum wage workers, etc.
Also lots of shitty cheap houses with crappy insulation and no AC.
Pic from Bateman’s Bay.
Could easily be Mad Max. Jeez.
BTW I think you’re linking to the wrong thing.
If only you guys had raked the forest floors. (/s and )
Whoops, fixed.
BTW: it appears that the current consensus of the online Oz right is “the bushfires were started by greenie arsonists as part of a conspiracy to pretend that climate change exists”.
Figures. Thinking makes their brains hurt.
They’re being actively encouraged in this belief by the Murdoch press and the federal government.
Climate change now detectable from any single day of weather on global scale

Opium for the masses. The drugs change, the mechanisms stay the same.
The only way I have found to look at it with a sense of hope, is to remember that global warming is only the most recent, least-dodgeable, hardest to explain to our children crisis to come along.
The root causes of global warming are the same as the root causes of just about every other social problem you care to name. Too few people with too much power and too little empathy.
By the time everyone else (anyone?) has pulled their act together to enact a truly appropriate response to the challenge, we might as well set out to correct a bunch of the other things as well.
In my own personal re-write of the Star Trek orgin story, its not nuclear war that challenges humanity to begin the work of Star Fleet, but rather global warming.
(Nuclear war was only a threat, anyway, and it would have happened if someone had a bad day. Global warming is a certainty no matter what we do. Might as well build Star Fleet while we’re at it, it’s basically a free upgrade)
I don’t know if I can click through for the rest of it.
Funny and sad how much more sad we can find animal death than human animal death. I suppose that’s because especially in this instance, the dying animals seem so blameless.
I added the full set of images after my initial post.
Whereas most humans bear some level of culpability in what’s happening. Our population is stable enough to rebuild on the ashes. But Australia being what it is… unlike humans, many Australian animals exist only in Australia. We’re watching an extinction level event, and all we can do is bitch that someone wants us to give up a fraction of our comfort.
Fuck this guy with the biggest, roundest cactus you can find.
