You’ve nailed the heart of the problem here. Nazis and neo-Nazis have only one goal: eradication of the “other”. This is why they must be rebuked, removed from public microphones, and, if necessary, fought back against with violence equal or greater than what they enact. We’ve seen this play out, know how it ends, and should always keep the promise of “Never Again”.
exactly what I thought, cause of this
its exactly the opposite; he is in a position to do so, because he is a school employee, who are teaching historical, proven facts. its so absurd, its just blows my mind.
The way you deal with historical lies as an educator is not say that they are in fact possible true in order to appease some fringe nutjbos. Once again, you would not teach an “alternative theory” to gravity or that geometry isn’t a real maths. There is literally NO reason to NOT teach that the holocaust happened, BECAUSE IT FUCKING DID. If he can’t be bothered to stand up for well-established historical facts, then maybe he can go find a different job.
And we wonder why everyone comes out of HS with a shitty grasp of history…
I had the unicorn of US history teachers in high school - a PhD, former university professor. He led, perhaps, the most difficult AP American History class possible, but I came out of that class understanding all the important events that resulted in sundry things like the country being founded, what caused each war, and the aftermath of each war. I have no clue about individual battles in these wars because, ultimately, those are footnotes in the greater story.
The vast majority of Americans never get that level of quality in public high school history classes. It was very difficult, but worth every minute of our time.
My HS history teachers, in all four schools, were good, and not coaches. But that was long ago, when teachers were paid.
My history teachers were a pair of coaches. I’m not sure what doctor signed a note saying they could teach as a team since no one else in the school did this but even two of them were not equivalent to a good teacher.
At the same school, my German teacher taught German because he couldn’t find a job teaching his specialty, history. He was not a coach. He was great though in that when any of us had a question about the history textbook he would drop the German lesson to explain why the textbook was twisting itself in knots to avoid saying. It was usually, something that made a US “hero” look bad like they died of a sexually transmitted disease caught while raping their way around the world.
To be fair, I had a HS history teacher who was a coach, and he was pretty good.
WTF?
At least that is what he told us. There might be more to the story that he never shared. Whatever the deal was, bringing history to life was his passion but not how he paid the bills.
