That guy showing up to his zoom hearing with a suspended license…

It wasn’t suspended after all, he’s wasn’t breaking the law but nobody knew that. A local Detroit news channel did the investigating.

That’s enraging! The prosecutor bears some significant responsibility for this for going through the motions instead of actually doing their job, along with the Saginaw Cty Court.

the theory seems to be that an appeal wasn’t filed, and the pardon can only come after that process has been exhausted?

from that article:

Alan Bennett, a former Travis County assistant district attorney and current defense attorney who has experience working with the Board of Pardons and Paroles, said he “applaud(s) Garza for his efforts to think outside the box in hopes of achieving what he truly believes is a just result. On the other hand, I do not believe he is standing on firm legal ground.”

the family may well have to pursue a civil case for any kind of justice, unless federal charges are filed somehow…

Michigan now sells more legal cannabis than California

https://www.sfgate.com/cannabis/article/california-cannabis-largest-market-19495568.php

Probably due to sales in the higher peninsula.

Makes sense; as all CA’s bordering neighbor states (OR, NV, AZ) have legalized recreational use at varying levels.

And of course, WA legalized cannabis long before all of us.

But Lewis and his team of spokespeople (he has a personal representative, in addition to those who handle public relations on behalf of the outlet), would have likely been able to contain the mess, if it were to have remained isolated. Unfortunately for Lewis, it did not. Buzbee’s ouster led to the revelation that weeks beforehand Lewis had pressured her to refrain from publishing a story about his alleged involvement in the U.K. phone hacking scandal. At the time of the scandal, which engulfed Rupert Murdoch’s media empire and was revived by a new Prince Harry lawsuit, Lewis was a senior executive at News Corporation, a position that has left an indelible stain on his resume.
