The blower is listed as “160 mph” .What an odd metric to use. Of course I’d prefer to see “mass flow rate” used instead.
Mike Nelson of MST3K fame once listed the worst humans. His list was:
- Adolf Hitler
- Pol Pot
- The guy who invented the leaf blower
- Idi Amin
We have a neighbor who will blow a single leaf across the yard to his bagging area instead of picking it up.
Beyond the noise, they also pollute the air and bring up bacteria from the soil. Those landscaping crews suffer a lot of skin rashes and other issues from blowers.
Not to mention other gnarly stuff, like mold spores, pollen and other allergens, asbestos fibers, dried feces, and goodness knows what else. Plus they are the height of obnoxious entitlement, as others have correctly noted.
But when I use a leaf blower I can {blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa}
Thus, a leaf blower is an awful thing. Get a rake. I rest my case.
You joke but they are actually invaluable in field archaeology when working with large open sites.
Decibel rating please. How many dbs for the user, how far away can the sound be heard outdoors, how many people are likely to be sharing that radius with you, and how many droning, obnoxious, energy-wasting sounds would you like to hear throughout your day?
NO!
I don’t want to hear, see or smell your damned leaf blower.
Uh ohs, at the risk of being told to go blow…
I love my leaf blower. I have a battery powered blower for quick clean ups and a gas powered one for cleaning up after my 57 year old silver maple my great aunt planted.
They are also great for drying my motorcycle and blowiing light snow off my car.
I never use the leaf blower or lawnmower or snowblower when my neighbors have company or when I know they’re home and sleeping.
As far as the neighbor thing, we don’t chat when doing yard work because we’re too busy competing with each other for the nicest yard.
We do sit down and visit when the work is done.
Except more often than not it’s
And then repeat
Right? Stick your hand out of a car window at 80mph and it’s a serious blast that feels like it could blow a yard clean in seconds. I think the “160mph” business is just marketing BS.
A bit like when a telescope is advertised as having 500x magnification ( what matters is the size of the aperture).
What kind of leaf blower/vac combo do you have? I have been dreaming of a sort of leaf sucker for my garden, bc the broom won’t angle correctly between the wall and the containers, so I end up having to get those spots by sticking my arm back there and scooping the leaves up best I can. Aside from the scratches, one of these days I’m sure to get the kind of insect bite I would have wished dearly to avoid.
But I didn’t know that leaf suckers existed and I’d been reluctant to buy a big expensive cordless vac, since my regular vacs never held up well to piles of leaves.
Lawns look better when covered with leaves.
I will have a look at the brand tomorrow in the daylight, but I can tell you right now that it’s electric and that it cost $20 when my wife bought it at Aldi two years ago.
I could not agree more with this statement. There was life before leaf blowers, and it was a better life.
A tiny bit off topic but we just had a bad storm blow through south east Michigan. It’s after midnight and my peaceful private road is humming with familiar sound of generators.
If leaf blowers annoy you then the ten or more generators running right now would probably be driving you crazy.
Lord, yes. Plus with generators there’s the snell issue.
Unless your Rand Paul, in which case a leaf blower leads to beating.
