Efficiency, more effective audit trails, and the potential for democracy to scale. ( Given the pace of the modern world, there’s a case to be made for more frequent elections, but admittedly that’s probably straying a bit off topic )

The problems with US voting machines were totally foreseeable and avoidable from the outset. The whole shemozzle is just a consequence of endemic impropriety.
