Free COVID tests now available

Because every Boing Boing reader is a US resident, it is not necessary to qualify this headline in any way

(I posted this info in an earlier topic, but it seems worthwhile to repeat it here)

Apparently one brand of the free tests is more accessible for people who are blind or have low vision, or have low manual dexterity.

More info about it here: Order free at-home COVID-19 tests | ACL Administration for Community Living , with a link to a special page to order that particular test. (They say: “To ensure that these tests are reserved for people who truly need them, the link to this special page will not be published on the COVIDtests.gov home page.”)

Alas, the free tests I received from this latest round list an already-expired 2023 date, and according to the FDA’s expiration date revisions, now will officially expire in December of this year. I mean, it’s great that we’re getting free COVID tests, but given the big spikes that always occur after Christmas/New Year’s, it’d be real nice if they sent tests that wouldn’t be expired by then.

Had assumed the tests would be on the newer side so thanks for bringing that to attention, i’ll def will need to check the ones that get sent to me. You’re right that it’s silly to get sent a test that will not work during the timeframe one would expect to need it by.

I ordered some late last week and they arrived today. These must be the same tests that @ecf received and I’m also bummed that the shelf life isn’t more than a couple of months. :slightly_frowning_face:
