@orenwolf , is there any function in the Messages queue to delete messages forever, not only archive them? If not, that would be a nice feature.
No, they follow the same rules as posts. You can delete your own, but not the posts (or replies) of others.
User poeducker
has been banned for descending into repeated “mild bigotry” as a derailing attempt. There’s no such thing as “mild” bigotry, and when a one-off statement that might be a teachable moment becomes a pattern, the course of action is clear.
Now he can spend more time with his yardmen.
I hope they find new employment soon.

has been banned for repeated attempts to make bigoted statements using subtle or indirect references, pulling back each time they went too far and got flagged for it. Our Leaders saw the pattern, though, and as a result, they are no longer welcome here.
This place largely works due to the efforts of those who flag and those who take the time to bring the repeated patterns of troublemakers up to the moderators so we can take action. Thank you!
Omnipotence has a short shelf life.
In the past, posts that were hidden due to flags had a link to click to show the hidden comment. Now I’m seeing that there is a hidden comment but unable to read what it was. Just curious about the change. If flags can prevent a comment from being read, why not just have them delete it entirely?
Excellent question.
Sorry, I have no idea. It’s not any available setting I’m aware of, nor anything we requested.
ETA: Oh! Actually I did find information on it, and yes, that is how it works now. Once a moderator has acted on a post, if it’s deemed to violate the guidelines, it’s no longer visible except to leaders, moderators and staff so those groups have context about who or what was moderated from a topic, instead of deleting the post which loses all of that information. At the same time, it leaves a notice to users that there was a post that was moderated, so that replies that follow, which may have responded based on content in those flagged posts, has more context as well.
Ah, in context, that does make sense. Thank you!
Am I correct in my reading that only flagged posts that have been evaluated by a moderator and deemed in violation will have this behavior? (I.e., not posts that are auto-hidden due to flag weight?)
That is my understanding, yes. And if a user edits a hidden post (they get a single chance to do this), it will re-appear as it always has. Additionally, thanks to help from @anon61221983 the bug that was preventing people from re-flagging a post of it’s edited but still flaggable has been fixed as well
User: babVU98i earned a week to contemplate more excellent ways to share that they have identified a typo missed in editing.
Remember the rule: Be Cool.
Something else seems to be happening, though. Posts seem to be unavailable as soon as they are flagged. The notice reads “hidden,” but there is no way to see what’s hidden.
