And nothing of value was lost.
See, I knew I made the right decision never clicking on that topic thread. No matter what was there I did not need to know more than what was in the title and eventually there would be this fucking guy
That was one of the weirdest hills that anyone has ever chosen to die on. Thanks for taking care of it quickly before any more people had to see it.
User Fred_Johnson
has been tossed for posting victim blaming, misogynistic garbage, which is all that needs to be said there. Good riddance.
User austintx
has been banned for making a vague and unsupported statement that could easily be construed as a slight against a particular class of people, getting moderated for it, then lashing out at the community, his responders, and the BBS itself for 1) supposedly misconstruing their remarks and 2) daring to remove their posts in the first place.
I used to live in Austin TX. This is not the type of person I met in Austin TX. This is also no longer the type of person one will meet on the BBS, either.
Given that someone openly admitted to creating new accounts in order to post really bad victim-blaming BS in the Jerry Lewis thread today I was looking at the rules in the FAQ section and was curious about this specific rule:
What defines a âstunt accountâ and âthrowawayâ and when is it considered appropriate to use them?
There are very specific cases where accounts exist to be a character or for forum games in the past - or, if someone makes a random one-off account to make a joke or somesuch. We havenât seen a lot of that recently because I think âforum gamesâ have moved on to other mediums in general, but if, for example, someone needed an account to run a forum game or otherwise have a different persona for some constructive reason, weâre fine with that.
In another forum, not the BBS, I entered a game as my usual self, but created a second character. She was never intended to be a real participant, but rather a Greek chorus and a way of supplying great gobs of exposition. Thatâs getting more into sockpuppet territory, but I cleared it in advance with the game creator, and the other players knew what was going on too.
The game creator was extremely patient with all this nonsense, but eventually decided that what I was trying to do was unacceptably disruptive. Since it wouldnât be fair for my puppet to butt in and accidentally eliminate one of the original players, the narrative required that the love of my life must die at my hand, with maximum pathos.
I came near to derailing the game, but it all worked out. The moral, I suppose, is to be careful with stunt accounts and to get approval first.
I regret nothing.
Which reminds me, I havenât seen @Death around for some time. @Flossaluzitarin is also quite quiet as of late.
I hope they are fine.
By the way, would a bot be covered by that? I have the impression that the âvideo link for the BBSâ posts by @fiddlingfrog are done by hand, since they donât always pop up. I often appreciate the work. However a bot could do that, too. And possibly consistently?
Sure, as long as it was adding constructively to the community and not doing something weird to Discourse (Discourse provides APIs and whatnot for that sort of thing).
and if we post a sufficiently appalling âModest Proposalâ it may get a Like from @TheDevil_LLC
Thank god for that, since I am a PERL script
PERL?!
We canât all be young and beautiful
I thought we didnât kink-shame here
I was in that game, and I donât think the side character was particularly disruptive (though I think Iâd âdiedâ before that got fully up and running anyway.) But the narrative was written beautifully, it actually brought tears to my eyes reading it. So⌠kudos!
As someone else already pointed out, thatâs not quite correct.
Also, Flossy is a real person, just weirder than most of us; in the best waysâŚ
