Genius Bar says it'll cost $1200 to fix MacBook. Third-party repairman replaces worn $35 cable

i’d say that too except for the personal anecdote of owning an air which has had a screen which refuses to light up.

after three separate attempts of having it sent away to be fixed: the ultimate fix was having the all of the components, motherboard, top half of the clam shell and screen swapped out.

i basically have a new machine now. it must have cost them several times the original price in labor. and it was all within the warranty so i paid nothing (extra) for the repairs.

my conclusion is that their hardware really is just that bad. ( or, i guess, that they should have swapped out a single cable. )
