I think it might even be a third option. They are heading off the lawsuits, like Exxon is facing now, for lying about the reality. Having the occasional ‘change is coming’ release let’s them head off some of those suits. They’ll keep pumping the oil as long as the margins are good enough.

A non-car. Even if we achieved a fully renewably sourced 100% electric fleet, cars do tremendous environmental damage by the changes they require in the rest of the built environment. Each parking space represents a lot of impermeable surface. Each lane mile of highway represents a lot of carbon through material use.

Big Petro should consider funding advanced steam (external combustion) research if they want to keep supplying all those corner stop-n-robs. Low pollution; efficient in stop-n-go traffic; quiet; safe; cheap.
