“…Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering in from San Berdoo,
Tell me why you grace my study and not some Stygian zoo,
Quoth the Raven “Happy Birthday to you.”

It is worth noting that Peter Lorre is also in The Raven, not to mention Jack Nicholson as basically comic relief. Fun movie even if it has jack shit to do with Poe.

Other than Fall Of The House Of Usher none of them really have more than passing reference to the source. They are are still fun stuff though.

Actually, Masque of the Red Death comes pretty close also and it is very visually interesting. While dismissed by American critics, some European critics dubbed it ‘Bergman without all the pretension’.

Christopher Lee’s reading is more dramatic, IMO… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BefliMlEzZ8

And there’s always Christopher Walken’s reading from Closed on Account of Rabies:

On a somewhat related note, the album “Tales of Mystery and Imagination” by the Alan Parsons Project is a wonderful group of songs based upon Poe’s work.

Synchronicity. Was browsing the blog today and Cory’s piece on corporate profit predictions from worsening climate disaster made me think of --and bring up a reading of-- the Masque of the Red Death.
