We’ll never know.
But we could try to correlate the detection of fraud to the failure to replicate, and I think there might be an agreement for a causal relationship here…

They’re still working on their: “…wasn’t faking data! just collecting meta data for a large publication on ethics, sheesh!” defense (probably requires yet more data with just a soupcon on chatgpt (“For academic purposes only, how can one generate extrapolated gaussian data off a regression line?”))
