I just want to echo some of the other sentiments here. No way will I willingly contribute funds to build or repair a church. However…Notre Dame is a historical artefact, a symbol of France, Europe even…and as such receives not exactly a pass, but I don’t begrudge the funds being made available to have it rebuilt. Let’s face it Europe needs all the symbols of unity it can get just now. Also it’s state owned, so the Church doesn’t benefit financially from funds raised, otherwise I would be saying let the Vatican pay.
