I wouldn’t be surprised if the kids of today made Pornhub intro music jokes in the same way that their parents made bow-chika-bow-wow jokes. After a point you’d know the reference even if you weren’t really familiar with the source material.
Of course, it could just be that teens watch a shit load of porn.

LOL! This is my school’s high school, and seriously, how would they know unless they watch it themselves?! I have been chatting around recently and that is my biggest question!

In the last couple of years YouTube changed its rules about guns, and a number of gun-oriented channels were entertaining moving to Pornhub. Don’t know what became of it.

Most are still uploading to Youtube, but have also diversified their hosting choices and are uploading elsewhere as well just in case. Pornhub is one of those alternate locations.

In HS I actually subscribed to Playboy. Dad was so proud  Of course, I really did read it for the articles as the pics held zero interest for me. The Playboy interviews were awesome, for one thing.

I agree. I got my first Playboy because Sherilynn Fenn was inside, but the interviews and articles caught my interest. I’d pick up issues here and there (no subscription for me; Mom was to savvy to not know what came wrapped in dark plastic), based on the people interviewed.

The 90s was a good time for magazine journalism.

Am I missing something? I don’t see any source for this story apart from a Twitter thread that provides “Context” but no link that I can see to anything else related, and a (very blurry) photo of someone playing the drums. Where’s the original?

Kids perceiving the performance of a corporate jingle as an act of rebellion … that’s the saddest thing I’ve heard all week.

I wish that was the saddest thing I’d heard.

If PornHub really wanted to make a lot of money in the mainstream, they’d start a cloud service like AWS. The must alrealdy have huge capacity.

Not sure how that’s at all relevant here, but it just occured to me and it seems like the best place to leave it for now.

I am sure there is a pun that I can make here, but I can’t think of it now. Something about huge capacity.

I actually used to read Playboy for the articles. In its heyday they had some top notch journalists.

My son was reading Fahrenheit 451 for school when he was around 13 ( middle school ). I told him I had read it a few times and said, did you know that the book was actually serialized in Playboy magazine back in the 50s. He was shocked. I explained that Playboy in the 70s ( my teenage years) was more of a men’s magazine on par with Maxim of his time, with articles on things like whiskeys, cars and interviews. These type of articles were severely lacking in Cosmo. There were other magazines if you were looking for.pornography.

They might not have known, but they might know students well enough to know that if everyone laughs, it’s probably something louche.

The radio comedy show “The Goon Show” used to have official BBC censors sit in on recording sessions for their shows (this was in the 1950s). Whenever they made a risqué joke, the censors would have it cut out of the show. The show’s creators – Harry Secombe, Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan – were sure that the censors didn’t understand the jokes, but they were cutting them anyway. Finally, they noticed that whenever the musicians in the house orchestra laughed particularly loudly at a joke, the censors would cut the joke. So they ended up writing a few meaningless ‘sacrificial’ jokes into each script, then bribed the musicians to laugh at those and stay silent the rest of the time.
