Iā€™m new to the classic tetris fandom, and it seems I started watching at an interesting time. Classic Tetris Monthly is experimenting with a 2Ɨ killscreen (pieces drop two lines per 1/60th second NTSC frame) some levels past the old killscreen. With rolling the best players can fairly often survive the old killscreen (where pieces drop one line per 1/60th second NTSC frame) for many levels and the runtime of the matches was starting to get excessive.
