…
super tedious boring question: yet why do we think ‘some bite’ was the cause of her sudden numbness and paralysis? (“well ‘B’ followed ‘A’ so…”) so much depends on how she’s doing now (and the MRI results) Of course, here’s hoping she’s all better! (with or without super arachnid powers)
Wasn’t a bite supposedly from the latest reporting:
PEOPLE contacted Inyo County Sheriff’s Office on June 20 for additional information. A representative from the sheriff’s office told the New York Post that, according to rescuers, the hiker was not bitten by a spider but was accidentally stung by stinging nettles on a part of the trail that is only meant for vehicles.
Emphasis added by me
Never heard of stinging nettles causing paralysis, nor spider bites either, unless you happen to be an insect. Tick bite paralysis is at least a real, if rare, thing.
Whatever caused it, it’s possible that she has a sensitivity to it, genetic or otherwise, that caused an atypical reaction.
Hopefully not parasitoid wasps of unusual size. A disabling sting before being dragged off for the implantation of ravenous larvae would be their MO.
Maybe it was a really, really lost blue ring octopus?
