How an infuriated mom chased revenge-porn slime-king Hunter Moore offline

It was really surreal more than anything. Like wtf, man? Really? A meth-head wanna be hacker? FOR REALS?

I have to say, not the weirdest story I have about my life.

Also, did you even read the article in question? Police officers generally aren’t going to give two shits about some random woman’s naked selfie floating around – except to insinuate, maybe, that it was their fault and they deserve it because they dared take a private photo (I was so upset at the time I hardly remember the two conversations I had with the cops, but let’s just say while they weren’t exactly assholes ,they weren’t really super nice or easy to talk to about something so personal and VIOLATING).

Yeah, pressing charges, lol, right. That’s actually pretty funny. We can’t even get most rape cases properly prosecuted in this country; do you really think I would have been able to press charges against that guy?! Reality is quite a bummer for women sometimes, and it doesn’t always make a lot of sense. Welcome to my world!

Meth heads probably make the best hackers. Who else has the time and obsession enough to collect info to crack the password reminder questions. I mean, the time/benefit analysis does not come out to your advantage if you are sober.

In the US it is perfectly acceptable to put up a billboard displaying photographs of open heart surgery or a hip replacement, but it’s unacceptable to show a woman fully naked from behind.
Although we’re not quite as bad as Japan. They have at least one law that is interpreted as prohibiting uncensored porn. Porn (meant for and sold to adults under specific regulations) is literally censored there. That blows my mind.

It doesn’t surprise me much. I mean how many words are there to describe a girl/woman that has many sexual partners? Now how many words describe the same thing for men? For some reason women are not allowed to have the same behaviour towards sexual matters as men. Evolutionary or societal I don’t know, but that is the common perception.

Japan’s plenty accepting of porn in just about every other way though. Every convenience store has a whole section of graphic fetish pornography out in the open next to the comic compilations and boxed lunches. Also most of the comics are at least semi-pornographic, particularly the ones aimed at teenage boys. Maybe Japan is a bad example.

Yeah, Japan’s a funny one. Erotic art is allowed, genitalia is prohibited. The censorship just seems weird. But I suppose that allows for broad acceptance in culture.
Not a great example, but I’d argue interesting nonetheless

Because bibble.

This being boing boing, I was expecting the headline “Rogue porn archivist fighting Federal government attempts to suppress first amendment right to discuss the physical form”…

Most of these women also seem fairly young. I was only 25 at the time. I’m wondering if I would react the same if it happened now instead of then – I might be more angry now, rather than mostly mortified and confused. I’d probably be more likely to try and get a subpoena, etc., and try to make the guy pay – but I also have a few more resources than I did back then.

I also realized that after some time passed, it wasn’t that big of a deal – but of course, he didn’t go crazy with posting the picture and my personal information online – he wasn’t quite that clever, I suppose, and it was before this was a “thing” so I guess I got “lucky” there – and of course I wasn’t a teacher or something along those lines, so it was pretty much a one-off deal.

I doubt he even saved the picture, actually. I don’t think he was that kind of stalker. I think he just didn’t like me and was a bored meth head wanna be hacker and found a weakness and went for it.

Japan? The schoolgirl porn is everywhere. And we were wandering through a pretty conventional looking department store in the Akihabara electronics district of Tokyo when we wandered through the pornography section that included fecal porn. I did not need to read Kanji because it had graphic artwork on the DVD cover.

Whoa, let’s back that bus right up. The Pilgrims did not found the US. That was mostly a pack of white slave owners a hundred years later. Massachusetts Bay Colony was part of the 13, but so was Rhode Island which was founded after MBC threw out one of their members because he wanted to learn the local language and get along with the indians and any other religions that wanted to come along. Massachusetts was one colony of 13, not the founding of the country.

Speaking as one American, I’ll (anecdotally) comment that I personally don’t care at all about such things, and my take on society at large here is that quite a lot of people don’t care, and a small but rather shrill minority of people try to make telling everyone else what to worry about their business. Ugh.

Oh so it’s the “shrill minority” that makes it so only 37% of rape cases get prosecuted, and only 18% end in conviction? (Source, with many more depressing facts: http://www.uky.edu/CRVAW/files/TopTen/07_Rape_Prosecution.pdf)

Yeah, sure. Just a shrill minority. You keep telling yourself that.

Perhaps the non-shrill majority need to speak up more, for starters…

You have so deeply misread my intended meaning that I’m not even sure how to respond. I stand by what I said. I have no idea what you’re implying as far as the supposed relevance to rape prosecution. Might I suggest you settle down.

Chaser, Don Juan, Casanova, Lothario, libertine, rake, rogue, debauchee, degenerate, profligate;
lecher, seducer, womanizer, philanderer, adulterer, cunthound, pickup artist, gigolo, hookup artist, John, punter, wolf, pig, bed jumper, whore hopper , . . .

Never the less, our society thinks it’s OK for men to ‘sow some oats’ while women are supposed to be virgins. Which is dumb as all hell.

Really? Settle down? Do you think it is appropriate for “SomeDude” to tell a female victim to “settle down”, as if I was in any way being hysterical, rather than being quite calm and rational? I understood PERFECTLY WELL your argument, “SomeDude”:

You are implying that only a shrill minority is the reason that women are shamed and even PUNISHED for daring to show their sexuality (or for being raped, which is the larger connotations of sexual violation which, yes, “revenge porn” IS). That’s not how it works. A “shrill minority” is not, in fact, the only reason that women are shamed so heavily and so OFTEN in our society for something like a grainy boob in a bubble bath. A “shrill minority” is also not why the officers I spoke to – and the officers in the post linked here – did not take me, or all of those other victims, seriously, AND YET, I still lost my fucking job. And yeah, it’s directly related to our abhorrent rape statistics. MY POINT was that even rape isn’t taken seriously, and it ain’t just the “shrill minority”.

If you think it’s only the fault of a “shrill minority”, you re wrong.

Most aren’t all that common and even the ones that are seem GLORIFY and even CELEBRATE the man for that, and none of has nearly as much history as “slut” or “whore”. Just like the insult “dick” isn’t nearly as loaded as the insult “bitch”.

The angry mom is this article had a plan to go after a specific bad guy who was a high value target.

She wasn’t spending her time lashing out at random strangers on blogs.

I just wanted to point that out.
