How beetles breathe under water

A lesson I learned from Danny Dunn and the Smallifying Machine. Danny and his smallified friends try to drink from a puddle but have trouble breaking the surface tension. Danny hits the water with a nail and sends drops flying which they then pick up.

And I realize aquatic beetles use these methods to stay underwater but terrestrial types seem like they can hold their breath for a pretty long time too. I guess when you’re the size of a paperclip you can go a while without breathing.

This trick works in Minecraft too, if you use a torch.

I was going to quote “Octopus’ Garden” but this is far superior.
